Lil Wayne's Birthday

Lil Wayne's Birthday

This morning I was driving to work, listening to the Max 94.1 Fifteen Minute Quicky Mix as I may have been known to do a few times in my life, and I noticed that every song in the lineup featured Lil Wayne.
Perhaps you did not know that I'm gangster-fresh?
Well, not really.
I'm just a girl from Louisiana who listened to both rap music and country music too loudly with my windows rolled down & my sunroof open in high school.
Mitzy was gangster too, but she's since calmed down.
I graduated high school in 2003.
I still happen to like rap music from 2003.
"Country Grammar" holds a place in my heart and I even got to visit the land of Nelly back in May.
After the quicky mix was over, I was enlightened by Ms. Latangela Sherman that today is Lil Wayne's birthday.
Pretty exciting!
Now, I generally like his music, and I think he likes gold jewelry, so in honor of his birthday, I thought I would highlight some possible accessory choices from In Pink.  I recently won a giveaway over at The Good Girl Gone Blog and I'm not quite sure what I want to use my $40.00 gift card on.
Here are some top contenders:

Turquoise Woven Necklace & Earring Set

Gold Chain with Large Green Stones Necklace

Multi-Colored Stones & Chain Necklace & Earrings Set

Gold Tone Rope Necklace & Earring Set

Turquoise & Gold Chain Necklace & Earrings Set

Green Stone Stretch Ring

White Stone Stretch Ring

Coral Stretch Ring

In Pink also has tons of sterling silver, dangley earrings and  rhinestone-y sparkling things(if you're into that).  However, I really don't like sparkley jewelry(glittery things & sequined clothing are a completly different story), and I mostly wear my opal studs every day.
Side note: I do NOT want a diamond wedding ring...if future husband proposes with a diamond, I'll have to tell him no, because clearly, he doesn't know me at all.
That being said, I guess I can't roll with Lil Wayne after all.

Happy Refrigerators

Happy Refrigerators

Last week was one of my co-worker's birthdays.
I took it upon myself to cut out little paper flags and glue them to toothpicks.
I also took it upon myself to make fig cupcakes with cream cheese icing.

I did not follow the icing recipe to a tee. I put about half the sugar and 3/4 the butter because I like cream cheese icing to be cream-cheesy...not sugary.
Baking is stress relief for me.
Especially if I can really take my time, and clean along the way.  These opportunities don't happen much, so when they do, I'll take them.  Having a messy kitchen makes me not want to do anything.

My cupcakes came out fantastically.
And my refrigerator looks much happier.  : )
PS - Happy Birthday, Larry!

Leslie Michele

Hello Dears,

Its been a few days since I've blogged and honestly, my life has been pretty mundane.
Except that parking ticket I got yesterday.  My meter expired, literally, two minutes before I got to my car & I was handed a ticket by an not very nice lady-cop on a segway.
I proceeded to go put money in other unexpired meters so that people wouldn't get ticketed(yay! good karma) and also put some money into people's meters who already had a parking ticket so that maybe they would say,"Hey!  This meter still has time and I got a ticket!  I'm going to contest it!"(hmm...maybe not the best karma there).
So, besides that excitement, I just wanted to say that I like Death Cab For Cutie, and I like this song and my lovely mother got to shoot one of their shows(shes a photographer & journalist too!) in the NOLA a while back.  Stupid me decided not to go, and I really wish I would have.
Frightened Rabbit opened for them, and even though they remind me of Flogging Molly simply because of that accent, I do rather like them...even if I have to listen to something three times to be able to understand the words, and even then, I might mess them up.
So, if you want to read her review of the show, please follow the link to the online music magazine Glide.
You can find it here.

Whole Foods Deal!

Whole Foods Deal!
Truth be told, I'm that girl who shops at Whole Foods in workout clothes on Tuesday evenings.
I really should remember that
sweat + air conditioning = cold
and always keep a t-shirt in my car to wear over them.
Truth also be told that I love a good deal.
And LivingSocial.com has a good deal now!
$10.00 for $20.00 worth of groceries at Whole Foods.
And when you get it...pick me up some carrot cake, Breakfast Pitas(aka Morning Rounds), trail mix, roasted red pepper hummus & organic bananas.

My Mom Is A Librarian & Thus I Love Books

My Mom Is A Librarian & Thus I Love Books
When I saw this weeks prompt over at Gussy Sews, I knew what I had to write about...and not just because she said, "write about books", but because my mom is a librarian and since I was a little girl, she has instilled in me a love for reading.
Even if I don't do it all the time.
I remember being a little girl, and even before she began working at the library, she would bring me to the storytime readings, special programs and read me books to complete a "summer reading" checklist.
Some books I loved as a child were:

The Pokey Little Puppy
I have my own pokey little puppy now.

Dog Goes to Nursery School
More dogs.
The Little Critter Series
My mom did the BEST British accent for the bully in this series.

A Child's Garden of Verses
"The Swing"
"A Good Play"
Good Reads
The Berenstain Bears Series
Stupid Lizzy Bruin.
The Munch Bunch Series(weird, I know)
I think I liked the pictures?
library thing
Not to mention a red hardback Disney storybook and a random yellow paperback book about bird identification...that was missing a cover...but I loved the bird pictures in it.
When I got older, I became a fan of the Goosebumps Series(which I suddenly have the urge to check out from the library), the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series(which I would probably be scared of now...anyone remember the girl with the ribbon around her neck, the dead horse, the toe in the ground or the jingle, "never laugh as a hearse goes by"?) and anything by Francesca Lia Block.

And now, in my adulthood, I continue to read, and also continue to re-read the same favorite books of mine.
Summer Sisters by Judy Blume
The Only Girl in the Car by Kathie Dobie

I also gave a little book review for my Summer Reading Part 1, and my Summer Reading Part 2
Also, Mom- If you're reading, you best not get rid of that Disney Storybook or that green Bambi Book.  I want them. I'll pick them up tomorrow.  Thanks!

I'm linking up with Gussy Sews Thursday Inspiration, a little bit late, but better late than never.

Smile! You Made A Necklace!

Smile!  You Made A Necklace!

Hello Dears,

Labor Day weekend was supposed to be relaxing and crafty, but it ended up being sniffly, headachey, and second-job-worky for most of it.
Not my idea of fun.
I did manage to do a few things on Monday though(you know, besides watch a DVD of Jon & Kate Plus 8 that I rented from the library...why is anyone surprised they got divorced?).
I was finally feeling better, thanks to some antibiotics, and ventured out to Michael's.
I'm a Hobby Lobby girl.
But Michael's is closer and they had some yarn on sale, so I went there instead...
and bought way more than I meant to.
One of my impulse buys was a package of coral beads to make a necklace.
I've wanted a simple straight up coral necklace all summer, and have yet to find one that I liked, so I made one myself.
I've also dubbed coral the color of Autumn, so it will get plenty of wear until its winter time, and scarves take the place of necklaces.

I had some leftover beads and string, so I made a few extra which will be in My Etsy Shop once I get around to taking photos of them.
Until then, I leave you with a dorky picture of twenty six year old me looking very similar to a six year old me on the first day of school.
Don't say "cheese", say "cowlick"!

I've run down Cherokee a million times and have never noticed this sweet little plaque underneath an oak tree in the median.

  • The City! The City! I'm going to the real city!
  • After that, I'll be moving to New York City for three months.
  • Just Kidding.

  • The world is my oyster.
  • Everything is looking up.
  • I took a sick day yesterday because my throat hurt & I was achy.
  • Thanks alot, germs.
  • I drank lots of yellow gatorade & had french fries for lunch & slept & slept & slept.
  • Homeopathic medicine is the bomb.
  • Sloppy ponytails & colorful bracelets, cuddly spaniels and new contacts are fine too.
  • Things are looking up.
  • One.Hund.Red. percent sure of that.
